DIY Hand Sanitizer by Pratibha Pal
Yes, you read that right. You can actually make your own hand sanitizer. Once you make these sanitizers, you will steer away from the chemical variants. I was told to make this sanitizer by a friend when there was a bout of illness at home affecting me, the kids and the better half. The kids used copious amounts of the chemical variants of sanitizer at home and the fragrance was not so pleasant.
This is a fairly easy sanitizer to make and I would suggest that you must use the basic essential oils I have mentioned in the recipe and you can add a couple of other essential oils if you want as well.
What you need:
1. A spritzer bottle – clean this thoroughly with hot water and let it dry in the sun
2. Essential oils – (the basic ones) Tea tree, Orangeand Lemon- 10 drops each
3. Add-ons – Lavender and Eucalyptus – 6-8 drops each
4. Aloe vera gel – 1 tbsp
5. Distilled or mineral water – 100 ml
How to make it
In a glass bowl mix together the water and aloe vera gel. Add the essential oils of tea tree, orange and lemon one after another. Use a wooden spoon to mix the water with the essential oils. Add the remaining essential oils if any.
The aloevera gel in this sanitizer helps to moisturize the hands while the rest of the oils are germ and bacteria killing oils that will help to keep your hands clean naturally. Unlike most chemical hand sanitizers, this one will not make your hands dry and yes, you will love the fragrance.
Another way of making this sanitizer is to pour the water in the spritzer bottle and add the essential oils. Shake well to mix it and store in a cool, dark place for at least a week before you start using it. You can also spritz this on small cuts and wounds to disinfect it.
Note: I use 100ml spritzer bottles to make my sanitizers. I make less quantities so that I can make a fresh batch every two months. The quantities mentioned in the ingredients list are for approximately 100 ml of hand sanitizer.

My name is Pratibha Pal. My quest for using natural products started soon after I gave birth to my twin boys. Before I knew it, I was shunning all the products I had been using for so long because of the nasties in it. I began to explore the market only to discover all the goodness that I had been conveniently missing all these years.
My blog started as a medium to reach out to like-minded people who believed in the goodness of natural and pre living. One thing led to another and before I realized it, I was making things that I could use. Scrubs, lotion bars, hair masks and more, the list is endless.
I am thrilled to be on Swati’s blog today and I am sharing a simple recipe that I use pretty often for a DIY Hand Sanitizer. You can follow me on my blog Pratsmusings, Facebook and Twitter.
